Slope Calculator
How It Works
This slope calculator uses established formulas to provide accurate results.
The basic rule:
- m = (y₂ - y₁) / (x₂ - x₁)
- Rise = y₂ - y₁
- Run = x₂ - x₁
Results are estimates. Consult a professional for critical decisions.

What does slope mean?
Slope measures how steep a line is. It tells you how much y changes for every 1-unit change in x. A slope of 2 means y increases by 2 for every 1 unit x increases.
What is an undefined slope?
When the run (x₂ - x₁) is zero, the two points form a vertical line. Division by zero is undefined, so vertical lines have an undefined slope.
What is the difference between positive and negative slope?
A positive slope means the line goes up from left to right. A negative slope means the line goes down from left to right. A zero slope is a horizontal line.
